| Florianópolis's Brazil beach Travel Information
Florianópolis's economy is based on commerce,
public services, transformation industry and tourism. Recently, the clothing and
computer industries have also been going through a great development process.
Among the tourist attractions of the capital, besides the magnificent
beaches, the fist Azorian immigrant communities are also very attractive sites:
Ribeirão da Ilha, Lagoa da Conceição, Santo Antonio de Lisboa and historical downtown
area of Florianópolis itself.
"Floripa" , as it is friendly called, is
an exceptionally beautiful city. It is hard to choose the most gorgeous beach,
the most romantic lagoon, the most charming place. The magic of the island captivate
all who visit it. Its 320 thousand inhabitants have excellent facilities: great
universities, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and an intense night life.
It is the Brazilian state capital with the best life quality.
Colonized by immigrants from the Azores island, the city is market by their architecture
from the colonial period. The people, extremely warm, speak with a peculiar accent.
Its 100 beaches offer the right place for all kinds of water sports:
surf, rowing, sailing, sand-board, jet ski, diving, wind-surf, etc.
Schooner
trips are offered to several islands where visitors see different fortresses built
by the Portuguese in the 18th century.
If Floripa is already a good place
for living, the tourist is treated like a king. It is a city to be visited year-round.
Praia do Forte (Fortress Beach) :- The Fortress of São José is located
in the north of the Island of Santa Catarina, between the beaches of Forte and
Jurerê and, approximately, 25 Km far from downtown Florianópolis. Strategically
located at the highest part of the hill Morro da Ponta Grossa it is surrounded
by the beauty of the coasts and sands of the Praia do Forte.
The Fortress
of São José da Ponta Grossa has been conceived by the military engineer and the
fist governor of the Capitaincy of the Island of Santa Catarina, Brigadier José
da Silva Paes.
Its construction began in 1740, being concluded almost four
years later. In 1938, it was listed by the National Historical and Artistic Patrimony
(SPHAN).
Praia Brava (Angry Beach) :- Until very recently,
it had remained desert and unknown. Praia Brava is, today, one of the most charming
and prestigious locations of Florianópolis. Its clear and strong-tided sea attracts
tourists from all over the country, specially surfers who consider Praia Brava
the ideal place for the sport. From the belvedere on the road that takes you to
the beach, the landscape shows the wild beauty and a paradisiacal view of Praia
Brava.
Praia da Daniela (Daniela's Beach) :-The three kilometer-long
Daniela's beach is a typically calm beach, with no tides and fine sand. Bathed
by the warm waters of the North bay and featuring a wide sand belt that functions
almost like an immense playground, it is the children's paradise.
The
tour for those who want to run away from more hectic places starts with a walk
on the sand to the left corner of the beach, where there is a marsh. On that part
of the beach, visitors may follow up fishers getting shrimps, crabs and other
seafood.
On the other end of the beach, a 20-minute walk takes you to
the Praia do Forte, the location of the Fortress of São José da Ponta Grossa.
Originally, the beach had the geographical name of Pontal do Jurerê but, according
to old dwellers, it started to be called Daniela after 1970 due to the birth of
the granddaughter of a local businessman - Mr. João Prudêncio de Amorim - who
owned several pieces of land at the beach . He and his granddaughter left but
the name remained.

Copacabana |
The world's best city beach with 4km of surprisingly
spotless wide white sand. Relatively cheap, with friendly, lively locals. Plenty
of accommodation, restaurants and outrageous night clubs. A great place for volley
ball, and is the home of 'futevolei' [foot volley ball], too. Fun for people watching
especially if you favour huge bottoms.
