| Florianópolis's Brazil beach Travel Information
Praia de Jurerê (Jurere Beach) :- The
green calm and warm waters with practically no tides of the Jurerê attract many
families during the summer months. Sailboats and motorboats at the pier are components
of the beach's beautiful scenery, an attraction for lovers of nautical sports.
The noblest part of the beach is called Jurerê Internacional. There are
parks, grocery stores, open malls, clubs, bars and restaurants to serve all sorts
of visitors and dwellers from families with young kids to youngsters who want
to enjoy the night life.
Praia da Joaquina (Joaquina's Beach)
:- Joaquina was a special woman of the beginning of the 18th century who lived
on one of the beaches of the east of the island of Santa Catarina. That woman,
besides teaching other women to weave and make beautiful kitchen artifacts, would
prepare food for the fishermen who would feed their hunger at her seaside ranch.
An acient tale says that one day, she was at the beach, practicing her weaving
when she was swallowed by the waters of the sea.
Visited mainly by youngsters,
specially surfers, pretty sun-tanned young women, lovers of beach-volleyball and
beach soccer, it is one of the best beach in terms of facilities for tourists.
Many groups of tourists visit the beach during the summer.
The beautiful
scenery presented by the rocks gathered on the left, the fact that the beach is
lighted at night, and the presence of public showers are some of the trademarks
of Joaquina.
Besides the beach, visitors may enjoy the most famous dunes
of the south of Brazil and practice sand boarding or sand surfing.
Praia
do Santinho (Santinho Beach) :-Nearly untouched by men, Praia do Santinho
is visited mainly by tourists who admire the nature and the tranquillity of the
place. Surfers are the largest group of visitors. Overwhelmed by the paradisiacal
beauty of the place, they consider Santinho the best beach of the north of the
Island of Santa Catarina for surfing. It is on the left of the beach, where swimmers
will not dare to go, that they divide the space with the fishermen.
In
spite of being 40 kilometers far from downtown Florianópolis, it is worthy of
a visit. There is a nice collection of rupestrian inscriptions made by hunters,
fishers and collectors of the island more than 5 thousand years ago.
The origin of the name "Santinho" (little saint) lies on a graphical representation
of a human figure engraved on an isolated diabase rock block. Up to the 40´s,
it was common for fishermen to make offers to the so called "little saint", pray
and ask for his protection.
Praia dos Ingleses (Englishmen Beach) :-
Nearly five-kilometers long, the narrow sand belt is bathed by open sea, with
blue waters and average undulation. In the high season, the average water temperature
is 22oC, guaranteeing a pleasant bath.
In colder months, fish schools
which swim up the coast searching for warmer waters than those of the state of
Rio Grande do Sul for laying their eggs make fishing the main activity for the
locals.
Praia de Canasvieiras (Canasvieiras Beach) :- Located
in the north of the island of Santa Catarina, the beach is a little over 2 km
long. From the beach, the main attraction, it is possible to see the Ilha do Francês
(Frechman Island). The waters are greenish, with very few tides and the temperature
varies between 23 and 26oC in the summer. The white sand belt is narrow and on
warmer days, when the beach gets really crowded, it is advisable to try to arrive
early to find a clear spot. At night, tourists and islanders have a lot of fun
at the local bars with live musical performances or at one of the local nightclubs.
Ponta das Canas (Canas Peninsula) :-The 1.9 kilometer-long
Ponta das Canas features white and fine sand and calm waters. 34 kilometers far
from downtown, it has a fishermen village with restaurants along the seaside.
Ponta das Canas attracts lots of Argentineans in the summer. Besides,
a 300-meter track that must be taken on foot takes you from Ponta das Canas to
Lagoinha, another beach with calm and clean waters.
Praia Mole
(Soft Beach) :-A traditional "hanging around" hot point of the Island,
Praia Mole ("soft beach"), which is called that way because of its soft and loose
sand, is visited mainly by surfers and paraglider lovers who use the steep cliff
as their take off ramp.
On warmer days, the beach becomes the preferred
place for the search for Summer love. Young children are hardly seen around because
of the many holes in the shallow part of the waters and the sudden increase in
depth. Those are young kids' number one enemies.
The beach counts on
good facilities, with bars, parking lots, showers, restrooms and life-saver. It
is a clean beach and the dwellers and users fight for its preservation.

especially if you favour huge bottoms.
