| Barra Velha's Brazil beach Travel Information
The reason for the name Barra Velha (Old Rim) is the
fact that the river Itapocu flows into the Atlantic Ocean close to river Cancela,
downtown Barra Velha. The pressure of flood waters, throughout the years, broke
through the peninsula where the present rim is, and, added to the force of tides,
closed the ancient bay, forming a lagoon with the old bed of river Cancela. Barra
Velha is a city with a natural vocation for tourism. Every year, during
the high season (summer), the beach gets crowded and the volume of tourists in
the city is very high. The main economical activities are tourism and fishing.
Praia Central (Central Beach) :-The central beach in Barra
Velha offers good eating and lodging facilities with bars, restaurants and hotels.
The waters are relatively calm, but, like in every other beach, adults should
take special care when taking kids to the beach.
At the south corner,
the colorful fishermen's canoes build an extremely harmonious scenery.
The beach is suitable for bathing, fishing and surfing.

Praia
do Tabuleiro (Tabuleiro Beach) :- The rough coast and wild sea require
special care with children who should not go into the water without adult supervision.
There is a good structure on the seaside with restaurants and bars.
The
beach is suitable for fishing, surfing and bathing but only for people who have
a certain degree of practice.
Praia do Sol (Sun Beach) :- Agitated
sea and strong currents require a lot of attention with small children, who should
not play in the water without adult supervision. The beach offers good facilities
with bars, restaurants, and the Inn Pousada e Restaurante Canto das Pedras.
Visitors may fish, surf and bathe provided they are used to that kind of water.
On days of calm waters, it is a very nice place for bathing.
Praia
das Pedras Brancas (White Rocks Beach):- The sea is calmer making it a
good beach for bathing. It is an extremely beautiful place, where nature, carefully
provided an unbelievable arrangement of light and dark rocks, as if someone had
put laid them, one by one.
The north side is good for surfing and fishing.
The south side of the beach is marked by the mouth of a small creek,
which makes it a good place for family fun, in spite of the fact that the waters
of the creek are not very clean anymore. For that reason, bathing is recommended
preferably when tides are high and the waters of the sea flow into the river.
Praia do Grant (Grant's Beach) :- It is the best place
for bathing in the city, recommended for safe fun for families with children.
On calmer days, it is like a pool. There are no holes on the bottom and the island
and the rock crown which surround the beach, protect it from sea streams, making
the sea very calm. At the south corner of the beach, there is a small fishermen
gathering place. It is a safe place for keeping boats even when they are on the
water. At the north entrance of the beach, visitors may enjoy a meal, a snack
or a drink at the Bodega da Tóia.
For having calm waters, in the past,
Grant's beach used to be a refugee for pirates and its name was given because
of Mr. Grant, an Englishman, who the area of the beach belonged to.
Praia
de Itajuba (Itajuba Beach)::A rough coast kind of beach, it requires attention
with small children. The facilities are good with bars and restaurants.
The beach is suitable for fishing, surfing and bathing for people with a certain
degree of familiarity with that kind of sea. On calmer days, like any other beach,
it is excellent for bathing.

Copacabana |
The world's best city beach with 4km of surprisingly
spotless wide white sand. Relatively cheap, with friendly, lively locals. Plenty

ball, and is the home of 'futevolei' [foot volley ball], too. Fun for people watching
especially if you favour huge bottoms.
