Aberaeron Spain, Traveller Information
A warm welcome to Aberaeron, a town which is on the verge of a grand celebration, its Bicentenary. As descendant of one of the founding fathers of 1807, I am honoured to have been asked to represent Aberaeron as Chair of the Bicentenary Committee. In 2007 we aim to celebrate and commemorate our maritime, industrial, architectural, social and cultural heritage.
During your visit as you walk along the riverside, the shore, the harbour and through the streets I hope you will enjoy and appreciate the many aspects of our town which has been described as 'a gem on the seaboard of Cardigan Bay'. We will also be delighted if you are able to join us in our historical celebrations "Aberaeron 1807-2007".
Aberaeron is Ceredigion's Georgian Jewel of a town. The town really took off in 1807 when the Reverend Alban Thomas Jones Gwynne obtained a private Act of Parliament to build a harbour here. Today this picturesque port is a favourite with visitors from far and near. Use the links below to find out more...
There are beaches either side of the harbour and both consist of large pebbles. Even as very small children our daughters enjoyed looking for different colours and patterns in the stones, piling them up and chucking them into the sea.
Coastal sea trips of various lengths. The boat is quite large (but a little noisy) and leaves from just outside the Tourist Information Centre (see above). I took my daughter on a one-hour trip when she was five and a half and she really enjoyed the adventure. We visited the cliffs to see the birds, looked at other sites of local interest and the local ecology was explained to us. If you are lucky you will also see porpoises or dolphins, and seals.
