Pathiramanal Beach Kerala, Travel Information
Pathiramanal Beach is 14kms from Mahe. A long clean beach, its enchanting ambience
invites you to swim. sunbathe or just lounge around. Black rocks protect Muzhappilangad
from the currents from the deep, making its shallow water a swimmers paradise.
Muzhappilangad is Kerala's only drive in beach which is about 5kms long. From
Muzhappilangad you can see the Dharmadam island (Pacha Thuruth) just across the
Arayakkandy river, a remarkable conjunction of beach and island.
Its around
15kms. South of Kannur and only 8 kms. From Thangassery. A long clean beach its
enchanting ambience invites you to swim sunbathe or just lounge around. Its Kerala's
only drive-in beach, one could drive the entire length-4 kms.

The little
island of Pathiramanal, on the Backwaters is a favourite haunt of hundreds of
rare migratory birds from different parts of the land.
This island lies between
Thaneermukkom and Kumarakom and is accessible by boat only. Surrounded by the
Vembanad Lake, stretching from Alappuzha to Kochi and the Kayamkulam Lake.
The green island thus forms an ideal place for a break in the journey while on
a backwater cruise. The mainland Alappuzha has a vast network of lakes, lagoons
and fresh water rivers criss-crossing it and is a district of immense natural
beauty.
LEGEND
According to mythology, a young brahmin dived
into the Vembanad Lake to perform his evening ablutions and the water made way
for land to rise from below, thus creating this enchanting island of Pathiramanal
(sands of night).
HOW TO GET THERE Air: The Nearest airports
are the Cochin International Airport, about 85 km north of Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram,
about 150 km towards the south.
