| BEACH with KIDS TIPS Make
sure you take water shoes or water sandels. Not or the water, hopefully
you've picked a beach that's clean and safe so you don't have to worry about your
kids in the water. Bring Sunscreen - more than you think you need. People
are often good about putting the sunscreen on the FIRST time but they forget that
they should be reapplying that stuff every couple of hours and after being in
the water. WATER - make sure you get waterproof sunscreen. We made that
mistake ONE time. OUCH. You also might forget how HOT it is in general so bring
more ice and drinks than you'll think you'll need. Leave the sodas at home. Bring
water and gatorade. Sun glasses and hats. Shade if possibl e via umbrellas or
tens would be GREAT. Also - for young kids, bring along swim vests. I don't let
my young kids go in the water without a swim vest. It's important for them to
learn how to swim but the beach is not a good place to LEARN how to swim.
Finally - you'll be VERY pleased with yourself if you bring a simple FIRST
AID kit. Neosporin, band-aids, and something to treat jelly-fish stings. You need
something to neutralize the stinging - regular vinegar works well. You could also
try a dilute solution of household ammonia (1 part ammonia to 9 parts of water)
but be careful that children don't get ahold of this. Also pain killer like tylenol
or motrin (in kid's dosage as well as adults) plus an ice pack. NEVER
LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN UNSUPERVISED-Children can drown in a few inches of water in
a few minutes - teach children to stay out of the water until an adult is supervising
them. Watch out for the risk of electrical shock in pools and spas -
see Don't Swim With Shocks - CPSC, American Red Cross Warn of Electrocutions in
Swimming Pools, Hot Tubs and Spas Supervise young children when using
restrooms and change rooms - See Safety tips for Using Public Washrooms
Stay out of water that has been posted as unsafe for swimming. Young children
can swallow pollutants with water and illnesses such as diarrhea and respiratory,
eye, nose and throat infections can result. If water is unclear, objects like
broken glass and other hazards won't be visible. | |
