Pasir Bogak Beautiful Beaches
Pasir Bogak claims to have the "Greatest Swimming pool in the World." I have heard that story before, In Bangladesh, near Cox Bazar there's the "largest swimming pool world" too. Big, large whatever, what matters is how nice the beach is. And Pasir Bogak is good. Have I been there? Of course, in fact I have been to Cox Bazar too but that is a complete different story. Which is the best? Pasir Bogak wins the competition easy as the water here is much cleaner then in Cox Bazar.
So the claim was interesting claim and thus I had no choice to sort out of it was true.
After arriving at Pulau Pangkor I cycled (sorry, I always cycle since I live here nearby and I love cycling) from the Pangkor jetty at Pangkor Town to Pasir Bogak. It was anyway just a few kilometers away.
Pasir Bogak, largest swimming pool in the world? It is a lovely place
I passed the police station, always good to know in case you need it. Then I saw the Coral Bay Resort. It's a big white building on your left hand. A bit further there was a little market. All kind of things you need at the beach were sold here. There was even a mini market for your ice-cream, cold drinks and snacks. Some excellent food stalls can be found there too. Later more on this subject.
Some vendors have cool and fresh green coconuts for sale. As a way to kill your thirst, I would recommend it. Some good fruits can be found here too. Pineapples and rambutan are always good and tasty.
Rambutans can come in yellow or red colour. Make sure you have the good ones.
Next to the market there is the Sri Bayu hotel and resort. Later more on the both mentioned hotels. First however, I went to the beach. It is a long stretch of white sand and bright waters. Not for nothing the beach is in Malaysia quite popular.
Coconut palm trees are right on the beach and give you some protection (if you need it) from the midday sun.
The beach is indeed a few kilometers long stretch of sand. It wasn't difficult to find a quiet place to have a cool swim. After all, cycling did make me sweat a bit.The water was warm, clean and not too deep so if you come with children, it's a safe place to let them play in the water.
I liked the view in front of me. From here you watch Pangkor Laut, the exclusive resort just a mile away from Pangkor but miles away from the rest of the world when you stay there.
As it goes on more commercial beaches, some people make money with hiring boats to make a trip around the island. You won't find a problem to rent a boat here.
Golden Beach Hotel and Resort
Golden Beach Resort is a recent opened hotel at Pasir Bogak. Nice? You bet! In the heart of Pasir Bogak a very new hotel has risen up. The hotel has all the facilities you expect from a decent hotel. Rooms are spacious and nicely decorated in style. Rooms come with air-conditioning (of course), Astro TV (and in the new few months (late 2006) also wireless internet connection in the rooms.
The hotel has a great restaurant the call the Orange Cafe. Despite there is no air-conditioning in the cafe, it's all day comfortably cool. Since the hotel and restaurant are a bit away from the main road, it's a quiet and nice, especially in the evenings.
And I have to admit, I was impressed with Golden Sands. Clean, good staff and comfortable. Highly recommended if you want to stay at Pasir Bogak. For contact, please call: 0605 6855888
The Sri Bayu
A nice place to stay is definitely the Sri Bayu hotel. The hotel is basically build just off the beach. There's 139 rooms, suites and chalets. One thing I do like about the Sri Bayu is that almost all the rooms face the sea.
Also the facilities are what you expect from a resort like this and include: island hopping, jungle trekking, jet skiing, canoeing, snorkeling or fishing. You'll find the resort a sort of mini village including restaurant and outdoor facilities for tennis, beach volleyball and more.
The best part of Pasir Bogak to me was the further end of the sand stretch. The beach is no very wide but it's more quiet.
But where to eat at Pasir Bogak? There are several good places to eat? One of them is next to the Coral Bay Resort there's an excellent seafood restaurant. Prices of the restaurants are all a bit of the same level.
Another good thing about this restaurant is that it's a bit away from the main street so you're not eating at the roadside. Sign of quality and price is that locals eat here too. As the rule is, locals know where it's cheap and good. Tip: try the chap pai dou fu or fried tofu with brown sauce. Nice place, good service and reasonable priced. What else do you need?
This is the most popular seaside resort of Pangkor. It has been described as the biggest swimming pool in the world. The water is shallow and crystal clear, offering endless hours of fun and frolic in the sunkissed sea along the vast coral reef. It is accessible by road from Pangkor Town. The 2 km crescent shaped beach offers a host of facilities such as sailing, fishing, snorkelling and wind surfing (available at Sea View and Beach Hotels) making Pasir Bogak Beach a more popular recreation spot for the local population.
Thronging the beach are open-air stalls offering local delicacies such as barbecued squid, satay and fish crisps. Accommodation is easily available, ranging from luxury hotels, chalets to the more spartan comforts of attap huts and camping sites.
