| More than 23 miles of beaches, a host of family-friendly attractions, unlimited recreation and upscale appeal make Daytona Beach the getaway to remember. |
The water’s great. The temperature is a balmy 80 degrees and the beach stretches for miles. The whole day is ahead and the possibilities are endless: Build a sandcastle, go parasailing or gaze endlessly at the Atlantic. But staying parked on the beach blanket for too long would mean missing out on some of the best Daytona Beach has to offer.
The Daytona Beach area is an expansive stretch of communities, some seaside, others clustered on the mainland of central Florida’s eastern coast. They are home to shopping districts, arts venues, bustling riverfront marinas, waterborne recreation, manicured golf courses and history-rich attractions. Together they make up a destination that appeals to both families and the couple getting away from it all, to the hard-core sporting enthusiast and the traveler seeking quiet and eco-friendly diversions.
Here are three itinerary suggestions designed to help plan a Daytona Beach getaway.
Family on the Go
Walt Disney World and Orlando may be an hour’s drive away but families will discover that the Magic Kingdom’s met its match with Daytona Beach. From Ormond Beach to New Smyrna Beach (all part of the greater Daytona Beach area), affordable hotels dot the beachfront. Many, like the Boardwalk Inn & Suites and La Playa Resort & Suites, offer oceanfront pools, where mom and dad can sit poolside while keeping an eye on the kids building castles on the sand. Many properties offer kitchenettes and, at the Palm & Beachside Plaza, full kitchens allow families the option of cooking some of their meals.
Family attractions abound. There are miniature golf courses, go-kart tracks and arcades, particularly along beachside’s Atlantic Avenue and the Daytona Beach Boardwalk. To find all that and more, families can head to Daytona Lagoon, a year-round entertainment complex that includes an outdoor water park featuring a lazy river and six-story slide, a 25-foot rock-climbing wall, mini-golf course, go-karts, laser tag and several dining options.
