Thailand a festival for the senses
The Thai Food Festival is currently running in Shanghai at four of the city's Thai restaurants. Each will transport guests on a tongue-titillating journey through the heavenly regional flavors of Thailand.
The cuisine is loved the world over but "The Land of Smiles" has much more to offer. Shanghai people will enjoy Thailand in this first-of-its kind festival "Thailand Beyond Culture" to be unveiled on September 7 and organized by the Royal Thai Consulate General in Shanghai.
The Super Brand Mall in Pudong is to be transformed into a haven of Thailand for three days with more than 50 exhibitors showcasing the diversity of the country.
"This year is very special for us Thais," said the Royal Thai Consul General in Shanghai, Chalit Manityakul. "The Thai Festival 2007 is a part of this year's celebration of the 80th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej."
Usually when one thinks of Thailand, the images that come to mind are of sunny weather, white sandy beaches, mouth-watering food, Buddhist temples and terraced rice fields.
"However, with this multi-sector festival, we aim to introduce to the Chinese people all aspects of the country: our rich and unique culture, and beyond it, our commercial and service sectors, lifestyle and hospitality," Manityakul said.
Thai businesses are already well-connected to the world. Manityakul said the country has thriving industrial, commercial and service sectors that are driven by a growing economy and the creativity and diligence of its people.
One can easily find Thai products in most of the large department stores in the West while foreigners continue to flock to Thailand for business, education, medical and beauty care services on top of travel and leisure.
